The CEO of a US mortgage firm has apologized for failing to demonstrate “respect and appreciation” for the 900 employees he fired during a Zoom conversation.
Vishal Garg, the founder and CEO of better.com, expressed regret in a message (pdf) put on the company’s website.
After the staff outcry over the video chat last Wednesday, Garg apologized for the manner “I handled the layoffs last week.”
“I failed to show the right degree of respect and appreciation for the individuals who were affected and their contributions to Better,” the 43-year-old continued. I made the choice to lay people off, but I botched the execution in expressing it.
